Summary

After heavy-duty usage of the Columbus database, the database file will take more and more disk space, even though you had deleted many database objects.

Every database entry allocates space in the Firebird Database. When records are deleted from the database, the space allocated by these remain; the entries are only marked as deleted.

More Information

When you encounter an increase in size of the Columbus database file COLUMBUS.FDB, we recommend to backup and restore the database. Through this process the database will automatically be compressed and optimized.

Please check the Columbus documentation on how to backup/restore a Columbus database.
